Making Anarchist Revolution Possible
Making Anarchist Revolution Possible

by Arthur J. Miller

This is one of the best introductions to anarchism we've run across. Here, anarchism is explained as a process of social and political organizing along "syndicalist" lines. Unlike other introductions that simply try to explain anarchist ideals, this focus on processes that might make up future anarchist societies seems to explain the heart of anarchism better. Miller argues for syndicates (in a variety of situations of inequality, not just workplaces) as the best way to respond to complex, changing needs of communities now and in the future— revolution as a process rather than merely an ideal.

Not only does Miller's little book get quickly to essential, practical questions, it's quotable: "Too many older activists expect everyone in the movement to be well educated on anarchism and issues, and at times they even get hostile if someone does not understand something, and attack them as if their lack of understanding is an ideological point of view. [But] we do not become knowledgeable anarchists at the point that we become interested in anarchism."
