The Spanish Revolution
by Wayne Price
During the fight against fascism in Spain, anarchists took initiative, organized militias, and gained control of several areas, most notably Catalonia. This period is considered an important moment in the history of anarchism and still remembered as a success by many anarchists today. This view presents a problem though because, ultimately, the Spanish anarchists lost the war, and were unable to defend the gains they had made.
This pamphlet, an excerpt from The Abolition of the State by Wayne Price, investigates why the Spanish revolution ultimately failed, and what we can learn from that failure.
